The Amtac Shooting Modern Minuteman 3 Day Course

This is the Modern Minute Man Course. The purpose of this course is to build men that can perform the following tasks:

  • Be able to shoot out to 600-900 yards.
  • Understand basic small unit tactics and team movement. 
  • Be able to navigate 20 miles while carrying a 25-30lbs load
  • Understand basic LOS communications.
  • Have a base level of bushcrafting skills.


This course will set you on a path to be able to perform these tasks. Training day one will consist of a precision rifle class/ practical, navigation class/ practical, and a short block on basic line of sight communications. After dinner on day one, we will do a NVG/ Thermal fam shoot (bring your NOD’s/ thermals if you have them), there will be some demo gear to use. Having NVG’s is not required for this class. Training day two will start with a practical navigation and communications exercise, then move into medium-distance high-heart-rate positional shooting. In the afternoon, we will do a small unit tactics class and practical. The evening block of day two will consist of a night small unit training practical. Training day three will start with a mindset talk more precision rifle, and then finished up with a 2-3 hour shooting and navigation stress course.  Camping is available on-site.


Prerequisites

  • Base level of fitness; be able to walk 5 miles with 30lbs pack
  • Competent and 100% safe with carbine/ rifle



About the Instructor, Bill Rapier

Bill Rapier is the owner and lead instructor of American Tactical Shooting Instruction LLC, also known as Amtac Shooting. He is the lead instructor of over 200 Amtac Shooting courses and has trained over 2500 students since 2020. Bill is retired after twenty years in the Navy, where his duty assignments included several years at SEAL Team 3 and over 14 years at Naval Special Warfare Development Group. Positions held include assaulter, breacher, sniper, team leader, troop chief, and military working dog department senior enlisted adviser. He has always been an avid shooter and is heavily involved in combatives.

On June 1, 2025 - Bill launched his online training, called Amtac Training. This is an online community where Bill and members of Amtac Training talk about all things firearms, fighting, and fitness. This has been a project Bill has been working on for approximately 4 years now - it will be a way to stay sharp year-round and be encouraged in your training with a community of like-minded men.

Gear List:


  • Accurate AR style carbine or medium bolt gun. This can be a hybrid carbine, Reece rifle or heavy recce.  Carbine needs to have a sling, 300- 400 rounds or accurate accurate ammo.
  • Gaia GPS app
  • Silva Ranger compass with adjustable declination
  • Protractor with 1:24,000 scale
  • Pencil, ruler, eraser, fine Sharpie
  • Small waterproof notebook
  • GPS. Garmin Etrex 20x or Foretrex 401 or up
  • Eye and ear protection
  • Medium pack  (I recommend the HPG Ute, HPG Umlindi,  Hyperlite, or the Kuiu Ultra 3000 (newer model)
  • Ability to carry 3 liters of water
  • Food to keep you walking for 6-8 hours
  • Basic fire kit
  • Blowout and tourniquet
  • Sunscreen, bug spray, snivel kit
  • MURS radio.

For the competition, your pack must weigh between 25 and 32 pounds, this will include your rifle weight
